The Employment Rights Bill through a Verve Healthcare lens

The Employment Rights Bill is heralded as bringing about a once-in-a-generation change for employers and - of course - HR managers and employers will be sifting through its pages with keen interest.
At Verve Healthcare, we are looking at it through a workplace health and wellbeing lens. It's important that our health assessments and our pay-as-you-gomental health, physiotherapy and private GP service continue to meet exactly what our clients need.
So - with this lens in mind, here are our takeaways.
There is a large focus on workplace wellbeing, which chimes with us because that's whole the reason we are here. Our purpose is to help employers create and maintain healthy, happy and productive workforces and so this aspect really speaks to us.
The new Bill recognises the importance of proactivity and we agree that this aspect is vital. We've long believed that although our healthcare services can help people when they are struggling, helping employees to not reach those levels is much better.
Our CEO Steven Pink has been leading so many conversations in this space, looking at the experience of the individual, the role of the manager and what companies can do to create systemic change. Follow him for insights.
With this in mind, and as well as our healthcare offer, we also work with professionals who look at how companies are set up - such as how to define team roles, management support, processes and culture. (See more here)
We believe that being on the front foot is so important and it's good to see this aspect in the Bill.
HR managers will need to develop strategies that address the unique needs of their organisations, and we see this extending to the unique needs of their people. We believe that different people will have different needs and that a blanket approach may not get the best outcomes. That's why we set up our pay-as-you-go Verve On Demand service, so employers only pay for the mental health, physiotherapy and private GP that their employees use.
We have seen so many reports of per-head Employee Assist Programmes or occupational health services being paid for but not used, and our Verve On Demand approach means that every pound spent is being spent on specifics.
The Bill is going through the protocols and there will be consultations around the reforms. We will continue to input into these conversations, as we have been doing with the occupational health consultations, and will continue to campaign for proactive wellbeing in the workplace.
