At Verve Healthcare, we specialise in workplace wellbeing.
We are on a mission to help our clients have healthy, happy and productive workforces. We are driven by our belief and the evidence that shows that healthy happy staff equals effective and efficient workplaces.
We see this as a win-win.
So - to help you on your own workplace wellbeing journey we have delved into our resources library, our article bank and the recent workplace statistics to compile your workplace wellbeing reading list.
We cover workplace strategies, interventions for individuals, how to set yourself up for success in terms of workplace structures, what to do if things go wrong and how to spot signs of ill health.
Let's celebrate World Mental Health Day every day
World Mental Health Day on October 10 each year casts a sharp focus on wellbeing at work, but as a mental health provider ourselves we know that this is an issue all year round. If we can help you now or in the future, please do reach out. Prioritising good mental health and wellbeing at work is not just the right thing to do - it’s essential for the health of your business as well.
But at the moment, the UK is falling well short. One in every 13 workers is off work with long-term sickness and, of those, more than half reported they had depression, bad nerves or anxiety either as a primary cause or a secondary condition. (ONS)
This is impacting the individuals and those who care for them, as well as the UK economy:
Workers diagnosed with depression lose 58 working days of productivity each year, which amounts to 24% of the average working year (TELUS Health)
Poor mental health costs UK employers around £56 billion annually, with presenteeism accounting for £28 billion of that total (MHFA)
61% of workers say they feel exhausted at the end of most working days, indicating high levels of workplace intensity and pressure. (MHFA)
But there is light at the end of the tunnel. There are interventions that employers and HR managers can put into place that many help.
And if you are concerned about the cost, take comfort from another statistic: For every £1 spent by employers on mental health interventions, they get £5 back in reduced absence, presenteeism, and staff turnover. (Deloitte)
